Ivo's love of film started with an old Rolleiflex. He'd sneak it out of his dad's bureau and use it to document his teenage life, which he spent in Zagreb and Vienna. This love of imagery and the stories they convey brought him to a career in advertising. He got his start on the agency side in New York writing copy for Gevalia Coffee and Sam Adams Beer. Following jobs in California, Europe, Latin America and a brief stint in Asia, he opened a creative shop and became crew himself, handling everything from PA, to art director, to coffee boy, and eventually director. Sometimes shooting jobs under less than favorable conditions in remote locations taught him to focus on the importance of the story; which he also studied at the UCLA graduate screenwriting program. Ivo has won awards including a CLIO for Gevalia, fourth place for 7UP at the Rome Film Festival, and runner-up for Bud Light at the Cannes Lions Mofilm competition. His first feature film Jarring premiered in 2010 at the Seattle True Independent Film Festival and won awards at Indie Fest, LA Reel, and Cinema City film festivals. Currently he is working on the script for his next feature, about a hip-hop artist, with Mr. Long of Black Sheep fame.
